Proton e.MAS 5 Expected to Launch in Nepal Soon; Malaysia’s Best-Selling EV

Proton’s electric vehicle lineup in Nepal is set to expand further, with the all-new Proton e.MAS 5 expected to make its way to the Nepali market in the near future.

The e.MAS 5 has already made a strong impact in its home market, becoming Malaysia’s best-selling electric vehicle year-to-date with 9,357 units delivered within its first five months on sale.

The model is Proton’s second EV under the eMas brand and builds on the momentum created by the Proton e.MAS 7, which is already available in Nepal.

In the Malaysian market, the e.MAS 5 is offered in two variants. The entry-level Prime version is equipped with a 30.12 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack that delivers a WLTP-certified driving range of 225 km. The higher-spec Premium variant features a larger 40.16 kWh battery pack, extending the WLTP range to 325 km.

Power comes from a rear-mounted electric motor, with the Prime producing 58 kW and 130 Nm of torque, while the Premium generates 85 kW and 150 Nm. Both variants utilize a rear-wheel-drive layout.

In terms of features, the e.MAS 5 comes with a 14.6-inch infotainment display, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, as well as support for remote vehicle functions through a dedicated smartphone application.

DC fast charging capability allows the battery to charge from 30 to 80 percent in approximately 21 minutes under suitable charging conditions.

The electric hatchback also incorporates a range of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning and Blind Spot Detection.

While Proton Nepal has yet to officially announce launch dates, specifications or pricing for the Nepali market, company sources indicate that the e.MAS 5 will be introduced in Nepal in the near future, further expanding the brand’s electric vehicle portfolio in the country.
